Facebook Messenger is now a means of payment in its own right. The social network of Mark Zuckerberg announced on September 12 an update of his instant messaging. This one allows to allow direct payment on the application via chatbots. The one billion users of the platform will thus be able to make their purchases on Facebook Messenger without needing to leave the interface of the messaging.
The online payment of Facebook via Messenger
From now on, it will be enough to click on a chatbot to buy a ticket, a computer, a T-shirt or a meal through a classic conversation. During the discussion, the chatbot will generate automatic answers to guide the purchase of the user until his payment within the conversation window.
Online payment is not a novelty in itself on Facebook Messenger. Since March 2015, the application proposes the transfer of money peer to peer to its users. However, the arrival of the bots last April, at the F8 Facebook conference, has gradually transformed social network instant messaging into a true customer relationship channel. Faced with this opportunity to reach consumers more easily, brands quickly landed on Facebook Messenger. David Marcus, vice president of the Facebook Messenger department, said there were now 34,000 conversational robots on the app, up from 11,000 in July. It was at TechCrunch Disrupt SF on September 2016 in San Francisco. To promote the use of the bots among its users, Facebook also integrates in this new update, tools to facilitate the sharing of the bots between the users. The latter can directly receive a bot sent by a friend on Messenger and use it in the wake of the application.
So, Facebook is pursuing its commercial policy to attract more and more advertisers and companies with its various applications. Faced with the popularity of the application, well supported by the decision of Mark Zuckerberg to impose it on all members of Facebook in 2014, the mutation of Facebook Messenger will switch it from a simple instant messaging to a service platform In its own right.
